Yemen has emerged as an unlikely thorn in the side of the U.S. and “Israel” after a string of attacks on “Israel”-linked vessels in the Red Sea in support of the oppressed people in Palestine.

The small Arab country, dealing with its own political turmoil, has made it clear that these actions will continue until the “Israeli” regime ends its aggression, blockade and occupation of Palestine.

A senior member of the Ansarallah resistance movement (also known as the Houthi movement) in a recent interview said Yemen “will not abandon the Palestinian cause, regardless of threats coming from the United States, Israel, or other Western countries,” dismissing threats directed at them.

Yemen’s defence minister Maj. Gen. Mohammad al-Atifi went a step further and warned to turn the Red Sea into a “graveyard” of the US-led alliance if it takes any action against Yemen’s territorial integrity.

His statement came after the U.S. announced the formation of a ten-member alliance in the Red Sea named “Operation Prosperity Guardian”. This is an enlarged maritime protection force being mounted out of Bahrain as an international effort to deal with Houthi threats in the Red Sea.

The Impact of Houthi Attacks

From a strategic standpoint the actions of the Houthis are having a considerable impact.

Since December 15, following a drone and ballistic missile attack on two merchant ships, four of the world’s largest shipping companies, accounting for over 50 percent of global container shipping capacity, have suspended their voyages through Bab al-Mandeb, the narrow passage at the southern end of the Red Sea.

The chief executive of “Israel’s” Eilat Port stated that since the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, port business has declined by 85%. The cost of shipping goods has increased by 45% in the past week as more than a dozen major companies, including BP, paused activity in the Red Sea or redirected ships around Africa.

Treachery of the Muslim Regimes

Whilst the Houthi’s are doing their utmost to support the Palestinians, the shameless regimes of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan are assisting “Israel” in getting around the Yemeni blockade by transporting foodstuffs across their borders headed to “Israel”.

“Israel” is operating a land bridge from the ports of Dubai as a replacement for voyages through the Red Sea, on a journey of about 2,000 km and two days through Jordan, in order to bypass the Houthis, highlighting the shear treachery of the Muslim rulers and regimes.

The actions of the Houthis begs the question, if a small under-equipped military like the Houthis can grind to a halt the biggest capitalist shipping companies’ operations in the Red Sea, as well as forcing the U.S. and Europe to scramble for a joint worldwide effort to stop them, imagine what could be achieved with real pressure from big state actors like Turkey, Saudi and Iran? Or even better, a unified Muslim world under a single Islamic leadership?
